Homework and home learning at Marston Vale Middle school
Marston Vale Middle School recognises the value of homework and the opportunities for independent learning. We strive for progress and want to ensure this is consistent through school and home learning.
Pupils will follow a timetable which allows them to stretch their knowledge, creativity and understanding of all subjects. The expectation is that all pupils should be able to access homework and allow them the opportunity to express themselves through a variety of tasks. These will range from research, written, modelling, drawing, problem solving and exploring. The timetable will be available through the school website.
Pupils will be expected to complete homework in all subjects. English, Maths, Science and French will be set weekly and will include My Maths, vocabulary and grammar tests (In Key Stage 2 French will be fortnightly). These subjects may set a maximum of two homeworks a week, however, they may set a project style homework as part of the timetable. All other subjects will be timetabled for a half term in the academic year. These will be set as ‘project’ based homework and will allow for pupils to extend their learning outside of the classroom. It will also allow pupils the opportunity to develop time management skills. These subjects may at times set other tasks (such as flipped learning).
Homework information sheets will be available for all pupils and homework must also be written in pupils diaries. Pupils will also be encouraged to read regularly. The Form Tutor will check diaries and we would ask that diaries are signed on a weekly basis by parents and carers to acknowledge completion of homework in that week.
