English as an Additional Language

English as an additional language (EAL) refers to learners whose first language is not English. The learner may already be fluent in several other languages or dialects.  

At Marston Vale Middle School we value linguistic and cultural diversity.  Religious and cultural beliefs and backgrounds are celebrated and valued through assemblies and the PSHE and RE schemes of learning.

The majority of pupils who are EAL at Marston Vale Middle School are advanced learners of English and the needs of these pupils are met through whole school provision.  We provide equal access to our whole curriculum by having schemes of learning that are responsive to the needs and abilities of all learners.
